Each of my sources are peer reviewed articles that I found in the USCA library database. Each source contains vital information on my research paper, Facebook IM in the community. I plan to dissect each article and use the most valuable information to complete my research project.

Facebook IM
Facebook is growing as we speak. From beginning with the networking of Harvard students only to the international networking of people around the world. During the course of my research I plan to study the amount of time spent on just Facebook instant messaging, and how it affects the average college student behavior and their community. IM slang is a popular terminology used with instant messaging. It sometimes can affect a person’s proper writing skills but also their way to articulate responsive conversation. Proving that Facebook instant messaging is not a complete waste of time and that it is beneficial not only to college students, but also to politicians, musicians, and families.
Instant messaging is just another form of communication. With texting and emailing being two of the biggest form of technological communicators, instant messaging especially Facebook IM is becoming the third link to communication. Facebook IM is extremely important. One has the ability to access and Facebook from the home computer and their mobile phone. Some cell phones are synced to recognize an incoming IM to let the holder of the cell phone respond. Not only is it important to typical college students it is important to all. During the 2008 presidential campaign a lot of the democrats and republicans created either a personal account or a group to boost their reputation and popularity. Musicians become users with the knowing of Facebook’s recognition, therefore are able to add links to there official page with lists of tour dates, biographies and photos.
Facebook is important. Facebook is all in the eye of the beholder. Users are more understanding to the benefits such as my topic; IM. Even though it can affect college student behavior it’s such luxury for us.

The Pleasures of Text (Blog # 6)

Technology has grown dramatically over the past ten years. From computer emails, instant-messaging, cell phone, to text messaging are all forms of communication that most people use everyday. As the communication industry is expanding it is effecting the way we use our language with others. In today's generation I can notice myself the way we speak to one another whether that is coming up with certain verbs to explain something or shorting words.

The way we speak to one another today is mostly a trend. Saying "wad up" or "word" meaning Okay or that's cool. It doesn't so much affect our relationships with family and friends, but after doing so much texting it can get to you when you have to sit down to write a formal paper. I notice these affects while writing in class or writing a paper. We are so used to these because the terminology is short, simple and cuts back on time.

Reflective Draft (Blog #5)

Mid-Semester Reflective Cover Letter

During the course of this semester so far we have discussed the basic learning process of writing a successful paper. We are six weeks into my first semester of college and I can say that my writing skill has improved very much. Even though they are not perfect and are full of areas of improvement, this has definitely been a huge stepping stone for me and my writing. I spent many days working on my papers from emailing them to my dad, revising them over with peers, and just simple revision over and over again. By the end of the end of the semester I hope to go into the next level of college English a good understanding of forming a precision paper. Throughout my reflection I’m going to discuss my strengths and weakness’.
I entered English 101 with no clue on how the class was going to be. I surely came in with the perspective of “I got this in the bag.” After leaving high school and a high school were teaching was an effort for our teachers. My teachers were very careless and my English skills were according to them, excellent. I believe that one of my strengths that I developed on my own was forming good points in each of my paragraphs. I was able to take a piece of work and read it, analyze it, and break it down. The lacking concept that I had was the ability to take my ideas and form it into a comprehendible paragraph. My sentence structure was weak. With run-on sentences and pathetic grammar, my paragraphs were hard to understand to my professor. But as I’m writing this reflective paper I am being very careful on structuring. In the two papers I wrote for Professor Fornes there were mistakes of clarity and punctuation on both papers. Fornes wrote notes and ideas for improvement such as “you have great ideas”, “hard to understand what is being said.”

Paper revision (Blog #4)

Paper 1"Foreign Athletic Limits"
Grade: C -Explanation: The grammar is poor throughout the paper. Run on sentences and lack of clarity. Seems to be very bias toward foreign athletes and how they are receiving the scholarships.

Paper 2
"Online College vs Online High School"
Grade: D
Explanation: There is a mistake in the first paragraph which distracts immediately. Commas are not used properly. Spelling and punctuation are weak. Conclusion is not strong.

Paper 3:
"Predisposed Divorce"
Grade: B-
Explanation: Too many question proposed to the reader. Again run-on sentences and weak punctuation. Citations were poor. But overall paper was well written
Paper 4:
"NAACP Case Against Gun Manufactures"
Grade: BExplanation: Spelling and grammar are poor. A lot of minor mistakes. Anyway needs to be changed to any way. Minor spelling errors. Just a lack of attention.

Blog Post #3

In the article written by Hagelin, she goes into detail with specific events that relate to the video gaming world and how it effects our younger generation. Being a gamer myself, even though supported with actual events, it does not mean that video games are the root of our criminal world. Hagelin does state that "I am not saying that every kid who plays a violent video game will become a criminal." Even with this being said, Hagelin is very bias towards the gaming world. Even though the population of these games are teenage boys and young men, and the mind is still developing, being a teenager they are instilled in them the rights from wrongs. Blaming the violent games for criminal actions is unnecessary. People learn best from experience, and it seems that Hagelin hasn't had much experience behind the controller of a "form" of entertainment.
